Minutes of the May i,2018, Meeting of the Old Lyme Conservation Commission
held at 8;30 p.m. at Town Hall
Call to order at 7:30 p.m.

Tom will contact Harold Thompson re 2020 Plan of Conservation and Development.
He reported that the school building committee will discuss solar applications tomorrow. George reported on the saga of the beaver on the Ames property.
It was decided that George’s “puzzle” article on Rogers Lake be held for a future date. George turned over some honey bee info to Maureen H-J for future articles. The blight ordinance was not discussed. He did mention that he had written the Inland Wetlands Commission on the subject of the State phosphorous law which prohibits use of phosphorous containing fertilizer around water bodies like Rogers Lake.
Maureen Plumleigh reiterated her suggestion for gaining more members by contacting relevant groups such as the Duck River Garden Club. Maureen is working with the library on the Trashing Fashion Show using it as an opportunity to seek members and promote our activities. She reported on the latest Three Rivers presentation. She has prepared an article for the town’s quarterly news letter on controlling invasive plants. She noted that the town has joined the eastern Ct. sustainable town program. The Conservation Commission wants to support this program, especially any solar component of the program. Maureen also noted that the movement to reduce/eliminate the use of plastic bags would be supported by Big Y. She drew attention to the proposal for the Hall’s Road low cost housing plan for possible discussion once the plans are
forthcoming.
Maureen Haseley-Jones has been active with her morning talk show and gardening advice as well as making political contacts with Joe Courtney in reference to the EPA debacle and Senator Formica in reference to the medical savings program for the elderly. She has made a presentation to the Shoreline Democratic Women’s Club in reference to caustic wastes. She will have a handout on recycling at the Duck River Plant sale. sale.
Plantings have been made at Haynes Park with the Town donating some mulch. The Commission voted to provide Linda Clough $77. for the plants that she acquired and planted at the park. The Conservation Commission looks forward to more outreach with the aim of forming cooperative ventures and of obtaining more members on the Commission.
